judo classes 201 and 202, tournament #9
sunday: 35 minutes elliptical, level 3, 30:60 second intervals.
tuesday: judo - lunch wasn’t sitting well, so I needed breaks all the time.
wednesday: lunchtime yoga. hip openers. this seemed like a good idea until my hip muscles were really really sore for next day judo
thursday: judo - worked on the “why turnover, just choke!” and a “control their head with your forearm turnover” some naiwaza
saturday: hyland hills. signed up for seniors and masters, but alas, no one else signed up for masters. but then there was an open division to make up for it.
seniors (both my opponents are under 20):
round 1: blue belt who beat me in the past when she was a green belt. I think it was a pretty good fight - she definitely had to work for it, I almost got to try some things (but I never really got the initiative) I tried the “why turnover, just choke” but wasn’t fast enough (gonna start timing that thing in practice!) It could have been better, but I don’t feel bad about it.
round 2: local black belt. She has a favorite throw. She threw me with it. boom. I didn’t feel myself landing on my back though, and was all “alright then! let’s go!” when I heard ippon. It was very disconcerting.
open:
round 3: same local black belt. she had to work harder to get her favorite throw, but it was much clearer to me that she got it this time - landed classically and she kept the hold. heard that I was following too much in this one. Still, felt better about it than the last one.
round 4: open was single elim, so this was strictly a bonus match for us. we both tried some things (I finally got to try uchi mata - didn’t work, think my weight was too far back) she got a pretty nice throw (seo?) I spaced that we were actually going to the mat, she got a pin. There was some confusion that ended it right away, but I don’t think I would have gotten out anyway. Fun fight.
