just got back from dancing
Please help remind me that I love going dancing. I danced for almost all of 3.5 hours. Even though my legs were already sore.
what is this for?
I don’t know anymore. For awhile it felt important to track my exercise, especially what I was learning in judo. But most of the time it just made me feel bad, like I should be doing more. As much as I still love my judo people, I’m less and less excited about judo itself. Now that I’m a brown belt, the one tournament I’ve gone to (unblogged - I won one round of three...
What should you do during an election year?
You should endeavor to understand the electoral process through the drug-addled eyes of Hunter S. Thompson. 40 years ago he followed the Democrats through their primary process and somehow not only am I reading along with it this year (though I intend to read at something approximating my normal pace, not move along with the full year) but I seem to have talked some other people into doing it too....

tuesday: judo - 2 line uchikomis, pair up and work on your favorite throw. I did uchi mata and o uchi - wisdom acquired: uchi mata depends on getting your hip into their gut, gotta be pretty close. pulling the jacket all the way over the shoulder really helps with o uchi. a little out of breath, but not too bad. last of the crappy faux protein drinks. eh randori.
thursday: judo - complicated...
judo classes 203 and 204
tuesday: o uchi gari - but from weirdo extreme opposing grips stance. the general idea of taking a step to move them around first was good though. randori went poorly. easily out of breath, but not totally useless.

tues: judo, JL lead the warmups, so we started with flag tag almost immediately. put together an ko uchi gaki -> seo nagi combo that I love! It’s still hard on my knees, but it forces me to bend them enough when I get into position so that it might actually work. randori … got a few good throws in. naiwaza … face is still too fragile for this to be a good idea. got squished in...

judo classes 174 and 175
tuesday: judo - learned something garuma - goshi garuma? (hip wheel) I’m bad at it, but it kind of works. and it doesn’t involve lifting anyone. Similarly, we modified my offside osoto to use the left arm to shove the neck back. it’s not smooth, but it’s more sensible than not moving the arm. Only did randori with easy people - I still outweigh the teenagers, which was a...
